Kanpur: A passenger train hit an LPG cylinder placed on the track in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district on Sunday. No passenger was hurt in the incident. According to the police, the incident happened when Kalindi Express, travelling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Haryana, was running in the Anwarganj-Kasganj rail section in Kanpur’s Shivrajpur area.
The locomotive pilot saw an LPG cylinder and other suspicious items on the tracks after which he applied brakes, but even after that, the train hit the cylinder before coming to a halt.
Details of The Incident
According to the information, the incident is being reported around 8:30 pm on Sunday night. It is being told that Kalindi Express (Kalindi Express 14117) going from Kanpur to Bhiwani was going via Anwarganj-Kasganj route. The train crossed the Munderi crossing, where the train collided with an LPG cylinder placed on the track. It is being told that this caused a loud explosion. After which the loco pilot immediately stopped the train by applying emergency brakes there.
After the incident, senior police officials of the Kanpur Police and Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) reached the spot and recovered the LPG cylinder along with a bottle of petrol and matchboxes from the spot.
The train was stationed at the incident site for about 20 minutes and was again stopped at Kanpur’s Bilhaur station for investigation, the police said.
As soon as the information of the incident was received, there was a stir among the police and railway officials. As soon as the information was received, the officers of the Commissionerate Police also reached the spot. Inspection was started on the spot. During this, the team found an LPG cylinder, matchbox and a bottle filled with petrol at a short distance from the train. At present, all these things have been sent for investigation. According to the officials, the upper part of the cylinder has been damaged due to the collision. But if the train had been at speed, an explosion could have also occurred.
