Lucknow: Some of the newly elected MPs from the INDIA bloc and others are facing criminal charges termed with potential jail terms of more than two years, and they are at risk of losing their seats in the Parliament.

Vote capturing in UP these polls was one of the MPs who won the Ghazipur constituency, but this criminal may get four years of a sentence under the Gangster Act. While its effectiveness was delayed by the Allahabad High Court’s ruling to acquit him till July, his parliamentary position might be endangered by pending hearings.

Likewise, four cases are still pending against Dharmendra Yadav from INDIA Bloc, who has been elected as the Azamgarh seat. In case his conviction lasts for more than two years, he stands to be banned from his parliamentary seat.

Another prominent leader, Babu Singh Kushwaha, failed this time but won from the Jaunpur constituency; he also has multiple cases related to the NRHM scam in which he was charged during the regime of Mayawati. Five percent of the cases have a charge framed against him with reference to the 25 cases.

Son of a Bahujan Samaj Party MLA, Rambhual Nishad, who was successful in defeating Maneka Gandhi of BJP at Sultanpur, is involved in eight cases, while one of the cases registered against him is under the Gangsters Act. The ‘winners with a margin of error’ include those who won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections victory for him.

Lawsuits could affect the dynamics of the emerging Uttar Pradesh election in a way that can be either positive or negative for the parties involved. The political developments will be influenced by the outcome of continuing Judicial processes, hence the need to keep checking on the prospects.
