Jaunpur: Today we mourn the passing of Parasnath Maurya, a minister who breathed his last at the age of 83, in Lucknow’s Civil Hospital. As per customs his final rites will be conducted today in Jaunpur. It is worth noting that Parasnath Maurya was a known figure who served as the Chairman of the State Backward Class Commission during Mayawatis tenure as Chief Minister. After a change in power he remained closely associated with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Parasnath Maurya actively dedicated himself to advocating for the rights and upliftment of marginalised communities and backward classes. He held a position as Chairman of the State Backward Class Commission under Mayawati’s government working tirelessly towards achieving justice. Importantly after stepping down from his role in Mayawati’s government he continued his journey within the BSP.
Parasnath Maurya played a role in raising awareness about rights, backward classes and oppressed communities. His commitment to causes extended beyond politics as he led movements across various states in India to awaken and empower marginalised communities.
In the 1998 Lok Sabha elections Parasnath Maurya contested from Jaunpur constituency, as a candidate representing BSP. In that election he had to face opponents, like Rajkeshar Singh from BJP and Parasnath Yadav from SP. However Parasnath Maurya managed to come out as the winner in that Lok Sabha election receiving the support of the people, in Jaunpur.
The legacy of Parasnath reflects his dedication to social justice and advocacy for the rights of the underprivileged. His journey, marked by political and social contributions, leaves a lasting impact on the landscape of Indian politics. Today, as the final rites are performed in Jaunpur, the nation pays tribute to a leader who devoted his life to the service of the people.
