Prayagraj. Allahabad High Court on Monday heard the case of Mahakumbh stampede on January 29, wherein which Uttar Pradesh government got a big relief. The court has rejected the petition demanding CBI investigation of the Mahakumbh stampede. Allahabad High Court called the petition unjustified.

The division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhasali dismissed this petition during the hearing. Yogendra Pandey and others had filed a PIL seeking a CBI inquiry into the Maha Kumbh stampede. While hearing the case on March 11, the court had reserved the decision.

Earlier on 24th February, Allahabad High Court while hearing this case, had disposed of this case. The state government had informed the High Court that the scope of the judicial commission’s investigation has been increased. Now the points which have been demanded in the petition have also been included in the investigation. For this, the commission has also been given an additional month’s time. On this basis, the High Court had disposed of the case. Also, the petitioner was told that if he is not satisfied with the judicial commission’s investigation, he can approach the court again.

Terming the January 29 stampede at the ongoing Maha Kumbh “unfortunate”, the Supreme Court on Monday asked a public interest litigant who sought its intervention in the matter to approach the Allahabad High Court with his prayer.

“It’s an unfortunate incident, something which is of concern. But go to the High Court. There is already a judicial commission which has been constituted,” Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, presiding over a two-judge bench, told the petitioner, advocate Vishal Tiwari.
