Lucknow. The Kartik Mela, a major festival in western Uttar Pradesh, has begun on the occasion of Chhath. This time, due to the Ganges River’s course being diverted, it’s being held in Tigri, Amroha district, five kilometers from Garhmukteshwar in Hapur.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath wished people as he wrote on X, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all devotees and residents of the state on the sacred Chhath Mahaparva, illuminated by the sight of the rising and setting of Lord Bhaskar, the soul of the universe, and symbolizing the unbroken faith in maternal power and the eternal devotion of the collective consciousness!”
The administration has already made preparations for this. However, when officials arrived to inspect the Ganga Ghat and set up tents, asking for the harvest of crops on the numbered plots along the ghat, their tone became less one of command and more one of request. It so happened that officials have purchased approximately 600 bighas of land near the Ganga Ghat near Tigri and have built crops and farmhouses on it. Dozens of IAS officers and former officials have purchased hundreds of bighas of land.
Meanwhile in Delhi, Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday announced traffic restrictions and route diversions in several parts of the city. The traffic advisory issued by the traffic police said that traffic will be affected around major Chhath Puja ghats from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning. People have been advised to avoid going near the ghats and use public transport as far as possible.
