Varanasi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has taken a step forward in the Gyanvapi Mosque case by filing an application on Wednesday in the Varanasi district judge’s court. The application seeks an extension of an additional four weeks beyond the October 6 deadline to continue the scientific survey within the Gyanvapi Mosque complex and to submit the subsequent report, as confirmed by an official.
The court has scheduled the hearing for this matter on Thursday but the ASI has requested 4 weeks for it.
Amit Kumar Srivastava, representing the Union government as the standing government counsel, conveyed, “We prayed to the Varanasi district court to grant additional four weeks’ time after October 6 for performing the survey in Gyanvapi mosque complex and submitting its report before the court.”
The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee (AIMC), responsible for managing the Gyanvapi mosque, has acknowledged receipt of the application, as confirmed by their counsel, Akhlaque Ahmad.
Previously, on September 8, the Varanasi district judge’s court had granted the ASI an additional four weeks to conclude their scientific investigation and survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. The court’s directive stipulated that the ASI should present the survey report before it by October 6.
