The president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, has argued that there is a massive conspiracy in the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, as it is being abused to intentionally delete the names of opposition voters.

In a X on Sunday blog post, Yadav accused the authorities of a so-called mega-scam to undermine the opposition by focusing on individual groups of voters. He asked the Election Commission of India, the judiciary and the media to listen to the claims and intervene to save the democratic process.

Asking sharp questions, the SP chief inquired as to the distributor of pre-printed Form 7 in villages during the SIR process. The objections are raised in Form 7 to have the name of the voter deleted from the electoral roll. Yadav alleged that such pre-filled forms were being abused to purport and strike off the names of voters without their consent or knowledge. He also claimed that a number of those complainants who were listed on these forms could not be identified by the background or their identity could not be traced, and that there were forged signatures used to approve deletions.

Yadav asserts that the reported anomalies are disfavoring voters of PDA communities too namely Pichchda (Backwards Classes), Dalit and Alpsankhyak (Minorities). He alleged that the removal of names was being done on a mass scale, even where the voters had full and legitimate documents. He reported in a number of cases that objections were raised against the persons in question without their having any idea of this happening until they found their names had been erased.

Addressing journalists, local reporters, YouTubers, as well as grassroots media workers, Yadav requested them to independently investigate the matter. He called on them to release what he described as a systematic effort to roll voter lists, and emphasised that the promotion of free and fair elections is vital to the welfare of democracy.
