Lucknow: Samajwadi Party President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has accused the BJP of tampering with the Constitution by discriminating against people based on their castes during the census. Speaking at a mega Panchayat in Tundla, Firozabad, addressing the Mandal communities of Pal, Baghel, and Dhangar, Yadav asserted that the BJP has undermined the fundamental principles of the Constitution by creating disparities based on caste.

Yadav remarked, “Today, people across the country are standing in favor of the caste-based census. BJP members have worked against the Mandal Commission and the basic principles of the Constitution.” He emphasized the need for a social fight for justice, stating that true equality can only be achieved through a caste-based census, ensuring everyone receives equal rights. Yadav acknowledged the prolonged nature of this battle, emphasizing the necessity of advocating for the rights of the backward and Dalit communities.

He stated, “We are not just fighting for the interests of the Pal, Baghel, and Dhangar communities but seek your support in ensuring everyone gets their rights based on population.” Yadav expressed the importance of social justice in bringing benefits to the people. Addressing the defense industry’s development announcement by the BJP government in the Bundelkhand region, Yadav commented, “The people of Bundelkhand know that the BJP has made big promises. People from Delhi came and said missiles would be manufactured in Uttar Pradesh. Today, after looking back ten years, those who promised to make tanks and bombs haven’t even made a bamboo stick bomb.”

Akhilesh Yadav’s critique reflects the ongoing debate in India regarding the implementation of a caste-based census to address social disparities and allocate resources more equitably. His remarks at the Panchayat underscore the political discourse surrounding caste dynamics and the constitutional principles that guide the country.
