Afzal Beg, who serves as the personal secretary to Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, chairman of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), and is a sought after accused in the violence that occurred on September 26 in Bareilly, surrendered before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday. He arrived with his lawyer and few associates, after there was a ₹15,000 reward for him. He was sent to judicial custody.

Afzal Beg is from Viharipur in Civil Lines. He is strongly associated with Khan as Beg has previously worked as an office-bearer and is also a close associate of IMC spokesperson Nafees. Police claimed they had information that Beg would surrender, and therefore sent a team to wait outside the court, only he quietly came inside.

Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya stated that Beg is wanted in another riot case, which was registered at Baradari police station. Police may seek his custody for questioning, and police will now pursue non-bailable warrants and any further action against the people that are absconding.
