Lucknow:  ColdRif Cough Syrup has been banned in Uttar Pradesh. Following Tamil Nadu, the sale of this syrup has now been banned in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand, and Kerala. The syrup has so far claimed the lives of 10 children in Madhya Pradesh and one in Rajasthan. The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has ordered testing of ColdRif Syrup. They have also ordered samples of the cough syrup to be collected from medical stores and hospitals and have ordered a ban on its distribution.

The Tamil Nadu Drug Controller has declared Coldrif Syrup “Not of Standard Quality (NSQ).” Tests conducted by the Government Drug Analyst at the Drug Testing Laboratory in Chennai found the syrup contained 48.6% diethylene glycol, a toxic substance that poses serious health risks.

In fact, Coldrif cough syrup, manufactured by Srisan Pharmaceuticals in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, caused kidney infections in several children, leading to their subsequent deaths. The governments of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala have banned the sale of this cough syrup. Meanwhile, another cough syrup and its company have been banned in Rajasthan. Raids have also begun in Uttarakhand to investigate cough syrups.
