At least two probable HMPV cases were identified in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in children aged 7 and 13 years old. Deputy Director of Health Shashikant Shambharkar, while confirming the authenticity of both numbers, stated that the suspected records are being forwarded for further analysis to AIIMS Nagpur. The two patients had been diagnosed with HMPV while in a private hospital; they received treatment and discharge. However, as a measure of caution, their reports are undergoing additional analysis in the AIIMS Nagpur to check for the virus.
Shambharkar said, “Nagpur has identified two people who are possibly suffering from the HMPV virus. The first kid is 7, and the second is 13 years old. Both the patients went for a checkup in a private hospital where the HIV reports were found to be positive, though the two patients have already been discharged because they have recuperated. Their records are being referred to the AIIMS Nagpur for further evaluation.”
These cases in Nagpur happen to be in addition to India, where the HMPV virus has been confirmed in three cases. One of the cases was identified in Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, while the third case was detected in Ahmedabad, the largest city of Gujarat. These cases were confirmed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) as per the observations made in connection with respiratory diseases across the country.
Nevertheless, all these cases have been detected, and Union Health Minister JP Nadda has come out strong to reassure the public that there is no cause for alarm. Particularly stressed that the HMPV, which was first described in 2001, is not a new and ominous virus. The health ministry stays on alert, and the county’s health systems & surveillance networks stand ready to effectively respond to any resurging public health threats concerning respiratory diseases.
