Two freight trains derailed in the morning on Saturday in the Jharkhand district of Seraikela-Kharswan, disrupting the rail traffic in a big way, which operates under the Adra division of the South Eastern Railway. The collision happened between Chandil and Nimdih stations, and the two trains carrying goods were being operated in opposite directions. Officials claimed that one train derailed a few wagons, and the derailing wagons of one train collided with the middle section of the train going in the other direction, resulting in the derailment of other wagons on both ends.
Luckily, there was no injury reported. Nevertheless, the derailment has badly affected train travel in either direction up or down lines in Chandil Gunda, Bihar track, according to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Adra Division) Vikash Kumar. The damaged wagons are being cleared, and the damaged tracks are being repaired as fast as possible, with teams working on the restoration.
Various express and passenger trains have been cancelled as a result of the disruption. These include the 20897/20898 Howrah-Ranchi-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, 20894 Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express, 18183 Tatanagar-Buxar Express, 13301/13302 Dhanbad-Japee Express, and the 28181/28182 Tatanagar-Katihar-Tatanagar Express. There are also reports of diversion or short-termination of a number of trains.
The Bhubaneswar New Delhi Rajdhani express (via Sambalpur) has been diverted via Jharsuguda- Rourkela- Nuagaon- Hatia-Bokaro steel city- Rajabera, whereas the Bhubaneswar New Delhi Purushottam express shall now run via Hijili- Modinagar- Adra- Bhojudih- Gomoh. Three passenger MEMU services, namely Tata-Asansol and Tata-Hatia, have been cancelled today.
The LTT-Howrah Express, which is stranded between Chandil and Kandra, will be terminated short and diverted through Tata Kharagpur Howrah. The authorities are viewing the situation critically and attempts to get the service back to normalcy as soon as possible. What has caused the derailment is not yet officially announced, but is indicated to have been an operational error at the time of crossing.
