The officials confirmed on Saturday that two Station House Officers (SHOs) have been suspended in relation to the murder of a supporter of Jan Suraaj, Dularchand Yadav in the Mokama district of Bihar. This is done in the face of a growing political tension in the state before the next Assembly elections.
Ghoswari SHO of Patna, Madhusudan Kumar and Bhadaur SHO of Patna, Ravi Ranjan have been suspended on the basis of negligence in the handling of the case. The action comes after a massive outcry against the killing, which has already become a big political party issue.
Dularchand Yadav, one of the Jan Suraaj campaigners, was murdered on October 30 in a bloody battle between the opposing parties when he was campaigning in the elections in Mokama. The event has caused a ripple effect in the political scene of Bihar as politicians of all parties condemned the act and pushed to get justice.
The Chief Ministerial candidate of Mahagathbandhan and RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, condemned the violence vehemently saying that such cases were a degradation of the democratic spirit. In his address to the media, he challenged the administration and the Election Commission on why accountability and upholding of law and order had not been achieved during the poll season.
Mokama, which has traditionally been a politically unstable region with the influence of strong local leaders or bahubali, is once again in the limelight. It has always been connected with the names of such figures as Anant Kumar Singh and his brother Dilip Singh, and Surajbhan Singh. The next election has been intensified with the murder of Dularchand Yadav.
Mokama is going to have a high stakes fight in the 2025 Bihar Assembly election with JD(U) contending with a strong man, Anant Singh, and the RJD with wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh, Veena Devi. They both are the powerful Bhumihaar community and the scene is set, the political legacies of both are to fight head-on.
