Kolkata: Two men have now been arrested in Kolkata for allegedly molesting women during the “Reclaim the Night” protest, which took place on Wednesday night. This rally was held in West Bengal, and its main objective was to provide justice to the 31-year-old woman doctor who was raped and murdered in the RG Kar Hospital. The first incident was reported in Jadavpur, where a man was taken by the police to the custody.
This happened because he was allegedly molesting a woman at the bus stand area. Various reports even indicate that the man was intoxicated at the time when the incident took place. Actor Sohini Sarkar played an important role by taking the victim to the police station, which helped her to file the First Information Report (FIR) immediately. Along with that, the student protesters of the Jadavpur University also helped to highlight this situation.
Of the two men, the second one was attacked by a group of protesters in Garia, as he was allegedly misbehaving with a woman before being handed over to the police. This also shows vigilance along with the heightened support of the protesters.
Another incident was reported at the Cooch Behar Mathabhanga Town, where a leader of the opposition party was reportedly attacked by the members of the ruling party, which is the Trinamool Congress. The CPI(M) also lodged a complaint regarding the same whereas Trinamool Congress had denied their involvement in the case.
The “Reclaim the Night” rally saw widespread participation by the protesters all over Kolkata, and various others towns in West Bengal, which also includes Berhampur, Chinsurah, Santiniketan, Bardhaman, Siliguri, and various others. This movement was mobilised with the help of the social media platforms, and it involved thousands of people along with actors, students, and others, who matches with national flag and candles.
