The main suspect of the Karur stampede case, Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has been widely questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at its headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday, officials confirmed. This is the third quizzing of the actor by the main investigating agency as part of its investigation on the tragic incident.

Officials had earlier on questioned Vijay twice in January about the stampede circumstance. The actor was again called back on March 9, but had asked the agency to extend the appearance by 15 days, his appearance due to his political obligations to the forthcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Vijay also instructed CBI to have the questioning done in Chennai or any of its offices located in Tamil Nadu at convenience. Nonetheless, the agency refused both requests and ordered him to report to the agency at its national capital headquarters on Sunday.

The CBI is examining the stampede which happened on the 27 th of September 2025, in Karur, Tamil Nadu, during a political rally organized by Vijay. The unfortunate event left 41 victims dead and over 60 wounded as large numbers of people came to witness the event. The case was originally subjected to Special Investigation Team (SIT), but the Supreme Court, subsequently ordered that the investigation should be transferred to CBI, in order to more thoroughly investigate the case.

According to the officials, the agency has been gathering evidence, examining security set-ups, and looking into eyewitness testimonies in order to establish a chain of events that resulted in the stampede that caused the death of more than 100 individuals. During the probe, the CBI has also called Karur MLA Senthil Balaji who is a DMK representative and he is called on to face the investigative agency on March 17.
