At a press conference, Tripura law officials revealed that Tripura police have already launched legal action and issued notice to the primary accused in the alleged assault on a presiding officer during the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Bagbassa AS. The police department has appointed a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dharmanagar, as the leading investigation officer to Fastrack the investigation process.

According to officials, the accused, Kajal Das, along with a group, assaulted the presiding officer at booth no. 22 while he was instructing voters to queue properly and obtain tokens before voting. These individuals, including Das, were not registered voters at that booth and violated Election Commission guidelines by entering. An assistant returning officer filed a complaint against Das and others at Kadamtala police station. Subsequently, the police served a notice to him for an explanation.

This video was published on the CPI(M)’s official Facebook page, and it showed the presiding officer who participated in the voting being assaulted there. Security guards, the next men taking their position, came and pulled Paul off the ground. The CPI(M) claimed that Das and their colleagues are affiliated with the BJP rulers. Contrary to this, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya had an opposite view, “We did not know about the event; if it indeed happened, the police and ECs would be responsible for it.”

Concurrently, at Middle Tripura, the district election officer gave the BJP MLA, Mr Jadab Lal Das, a chance to explain why he had allegedly gone into a voting room no. In Sundarbans Jharkhand, Bagbassa Assembly constituency candidate was issued an Adhaar card twice under the same name, Bagbassa, which goes against the Election Commission directives and was also brandished in the presence of a Booth Level officer.

Another case was Sushankar Debnath, a staff member involved in agricultural assistance who was suspended due to his communication with another person by sending multiple political messages to the government WhatsApp group. Debnath worked in office of UGTC in the concealed part of Lembucherra forest region.
