The school bus that was on the way to pick up students was stopped in its tracks when a school bus carrying 30 children overturned in Mahendergarh, Haryana, on Thursday morning. At least six kids were killed, while fifteen suffered injuries. The disaster happened when the driver, while driving fast, ran over another car from the opposite direction, as per the documents provided by the police.

The bus, which met with an unfortunate accident, belonged to GL Public School in Kanina; however, the accident happened, brushed off all safety warnings, and the school was supposed to be closed for the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

Already after that accident, students who got hurt were sent to medical facilities in these towns, Mahendergarh and Narnaul, with no delay for first aid. As if the unfolding disaster was not shocking enough, disturbing information came to light when it was found out that the bus’s fitness certificate lapsed six years back, exactly in 2018, as the senior police officer informed us subsequently.

The witnesses from the scene said the bus driver appeared drunk while the accident was occurring. District SP Arsh Verma has recently mentioned that the deaths involved with having the Mahindergarh driver being unnecessarily drunk has been separately tested for alcohol.

The investigation process is on-going, with plans to check the documents to identify the role bus driver played in the accident and as per chief there is more probe to be done regarding the errands of the school administration team conducted on that day. While the developments of the case are still very critical, two children are kept in the worst conditions possible and are under the supervision of the best medical experts. The SP reported with heavy soul that the death toll already strikes six defenceless children.

Immediately after receiving the depressing news, Seema Trikha, the Minister of Education in Haryana, reacted vigorously by liaising with the deputy commissioner of Mahendergarh and the district superintendent of police. Moreover, they are required to show rapidness in visiting the hospitals and monitor the case of students with injuries, as well as speed up the inquiry process in the event.

The grim event has established defencelessness in the school system where all parties owe safety and health to the students during their trip to school.
