According to the media, Mahua Moitra, an MP from Trinamool Congress, married ex-Biju Janata Dal MP Pinaki Misra in a small ceremony in Germany on May 3. The Telegraph Online and India Today were the first to reveal pictures from the wedding, which was held in secret for a month. From the images, Mahua Moitra looks cheerful in traditional gold attire, suggesting the event was spent quietly, without much attention from the media.
It is personally significant for both politicians since they come from different political viewpoints. Roaring TMC leader Mahua Moitra is now in her second term as an MP in the Lok Sabha from Krishnanagar in West Bengal. She was once again elected in the 2024 general elections, having beaten the BJP’s Amrita Roy. In 2019, Moitra won the seat by beating Kalyan Chaubey, who was known to be a former footballer.
Pinaki Misra, an important member of the legal field and advocate in the Supreme Court, represented Puri, Odisha, as a BJD MP and has been active in politics for quite some time. Since Mahua Moitra’s association with him was not often reported, the news of their wedding came as a pleasant surprise to many people.
Yet, Mahua Moitra has appeared in the news due to some disputes. She was involved in a scandal where she was said to have taken money from Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for questions. People claim that she got gifts in return for raising issues in Parliament and allowed Hiranandani to use her parliamentary login details. Moitra maintains that she did not do anything wrong and shared the information just to enable her assistance in posting questions.
The announcement of her marriage adds a more personal story to her public life, which is mainly made up of politics.
