New conflicts between the representatives of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) arose on Monday due to the objections regarding the inclusion of the voters in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll bound West Bengal. Hostility rose when BJP workers tried to present Form 7 which is filed to protest against the exclusion of some names in the electoral rolls.

In Asansol, a fight erupted outside the office of the sub-divisional officer, as BJP workers came to hand in a lot of Form 7 applications. The TMC charged the BJP with the intention of deleting names of thousands of real voters and the BJP alleged that the draft electoral rolls still had a significant number of illegal and fake voters.

BJP MLA, Agnimitra Paul (who represents Asansol) claimed that TMC workers were actively preventing BJP supporters to file objections. She alleged that workers of BJP were beaten up, documents were ripped and the police had arrested BJP members, terming the events as an assault on democracy.

According to election commission of India data, BJP has made the most Form 7 applications to date with 591 applications, whereas TMC has made the least with 13.

In the Murshidabad district, violence was also reported at Lalbagh where BJP workers had gone to present Form 7 to delete so-called fake voters. Social media videos also alleged videos of a car being vandalized with stones claiming that the stones were that of a BJP leader.

In Durgapur, workers of BJP blocked a national highway, claiming to have been attacked by workers of TMC. Like conflicts were witnessed in Jamuria, Hooghly and Kalyani, previous cases were also experienced in Bankura and Malda and people were concerned about law and order during the voter revision process.
