Wednesday, three schools in Ahmedabad were closed down due to bomb threat e-mails and instant action by the police was taken. The threats were reported to the authorities in the schools, which include Maharaja Agrasen School, Zydus School of Excellence, and Zebra School which saw to it that the safety of the students and staff was taken care of. The emails were said to have a chilling message of, we will avenge that made school officials as well as the parents panic.
Joint Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Sharad Singhal, confirmed that the teams of police were sent to all the three schools to inquire about the threats. Dog squads were also introduced to search the premises and check whether no explosive materials were present. The authorities are not taking the threats lightly as they may be dangerous in nature and parents have been advised to move out their children in the schools immediately. One of the parents being the official notice of the school said, This is to inform you that we have to leave the Vidhyalaya premises because of some inconvenience. We beg you to take away your child; take him away as soon as you can. The parent also stated that the security system in the school was very strong and the teachers would quickly call parents to check whether all the students were fine.
According to the police officials, there are suspicions that the emails are connected with Khalistan-related factors, and it can be noted that schools are targeted. It is a development following other acts of the same early this month where various schools in Amritsar Punjab were bomb threatened through emails. Later the threat was confirmed as a hoax by authorities in Punjab after investigating with anti-sabotage.
With the on-going investigations in Ahmedabad, the police are focusing on the vigilance and the safety of the people and making sure that no precaution is handled to put the lives of the students in jeopardy. The quick reaction of the police and the school administrations underlines the role of the concerted intervention in such situations.
