This sad incident of a terrorist attack has stirred the community members, as it happened just days after Omar Abdullah was administered the oath of office to become the first Chief Minister of the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is quite a political change because it means re-establishing an elected government after six years of rule by Presidents. The last assembly elections were especially interesting to watch; it was conducted after a ten-year break, and the National Conference-Congress alliance emerged as the winner. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) took the lion’s share by capturing 42 of the state’s assembly seats, and Congress managed to win 6.
The community members were heard and interviewed about the violent event saying that security measures should be enhanced in the area. The police are closely looking at the case and trying to tie it to similar cases in the region that may relate to a surge of violence. Police and other authorities are also still continuing to contact the local residents to obtain information that may help to identify the victim as well as the perpetrators of the attack. The occurrence is a pointer to the continued instability and security. When the present and newly formed government has to rebuild confidence from its people in the state in question, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
