The Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Nagarkurnool, Telangana, is in a desperate race against time as more than 500 rescuers work desperately to locate and brave the danger and rescue eight workers trapped inside. Since the workers in Telangana became stranded in the tunnel by what partially collapsed on February 22, 2025, they have been there for days. But to date, no major breakthrough has been made in saving the victims.

Rescue Operations in Full Swing

The extensive operation is being conducted by teams from the Indian Army, Navy, Singareni Collieries, and other specialized rescue agencies. But on Saturday, officials have now resorted to cutting through a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) to create a safe passage and reach the 50 workers, trapped in the tunnel. But because the tunnel is complex, the debris is blocking the way, and rescuing people trapped within has proven very difficult.

Families in Agony, Awaiting Updates

Currently, the families of the trapped workers are distressed and anxious about any good news. One of the workers, Gurpreet Singh, is a relative who said they have received no official information about the rescue efforts. In particular, some family members even asked for permission to enter the tunnel so they could see the situation by themselves, but they did not allow them to enter due to the safety concerns.

Authorities Intensify Rescue Mission

Authorities have increased their rescue efforts to make sure the workers are evacuated safely with every passing hour. As engineers and experts search for alternative means to clear debris and reach the trapped individuals, they continue to debate ways to do so.

The situation is still critical with people’s eyes on the rescue teams, hoping they can get the workers out alive.
