Instructing the officials to take urgent steps to deploy robotic technology in the ongoing rescue operation inside the partially collapsed SLBC tunnel at the Reliance factory, Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that. Fragments in the damaged Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) inside the tunnel endanger rescue personnel who will have to enter the tunnel to remove the machine, and that decision occurred as the building of the breakway continues.
Although the tunnel collapsed on February 22, two more workers are still trapped inside. Real rescue efforts are also becoming more and more dangerous as rescue teams have to overcome low oxygen levels, high water seepage and debris from the heavy TBM machinery.
He visited the site and was briefed by officials of many organisations in the rescue operation. The government would cover a cost of ₹4 crores for bringing in robotics experts to help with the rescue mission, he had announced. An official statement said that the TBM has sunk parts of it below water, soil, stone inside the tunnel, which is creating a hazardous situation for the rescue teams who are trying to reach the persons trapped inside.
Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, had earlier suggested the use of robotic assistance to ensure the safety of rescue workers while visiting the site on March 2. The government will continue the operation despite the adverse conditions, the irrigation minister affirmed. The collapse was described as a national disaster, and he offered full support to the trapped workers and the officials working on the rescue mission.
The operation is being supervised by Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, who briefed the minister that the effort was moving ahead and that hurdles were slowing down the rescue efforts. He also spoke with robotic experts and rat mine experts, as well as possible solutions with experts of the National Geophysical Research Institute, to expedite the process and ensure the rescue is done safely and successfully.
