Two cadaver dogs of Kerala Police, their handlers, are being sent to the site of the SLBC tunnel collapse in Telangana as part of a big rescue effort. The deployment comes after the state’s Disaster Management Authority received an order from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The decision to send in the highly trained cadaver dogs to assist rescue teams in wading through the twisted, disastrous tunnel conditions was taken by the Kerala Chief Minister’s office (CMO), their statement said. Targeted at detecting a human scent, even buried under deep layers of rubble, these dogs have been used by the rescue operations, which are still underway.

NDRF Commandant VVN Prasanna Kumar meanwhile provided that 12 agencies are working day and night to find out where the eight workers are inside the collapsed tunnel.

“The operation is fully ongoing at full capacity. Alas, we haven’t managed to locate the victims so far as the tunnel’s structure is too complex and the conditions are too unstable,” Kumar said.

Top experts from across the country have been called in by the Telangana and Central governments to support the rescue mission. Authorities are confident that with a lot of manpower and strategic planning, a breakthrough will soon come.

With rescue efforts ongoing, they focus on speed and precision to achieve the best favorable result from this tragic incident.
