Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and the leader of the Mahagathbandhan, Tejashwi Yadav, conducted a vigorous anti-corruption campaign to the Bihar voters before the next assembly elections. At a rally at Bakhtiyarpur, Yadav promised a set of welfare initiatives, such as lowering LPG cylinder price to 500 rupees and doubling old age pensions to 1,500 rupees, in case the opposition alliance government assumes power.

Showing his deep concern about the state of Bihar, Tejashwi opined that he is anguished as a Bihari because, after over two decades of Bihar under the rule of the Janata Dal (United) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), there is still no reduction in poverty, unemployment, and corruption in the state. Our farmers remain poor, the per capita income is the lowest, and the criminal activities are on the increase, he observed after 20 years of NDA rule in Bihar and 11 years in the Center.

Yadav also targeted the NDA that failed to name a chief minister candidate, claiming that Nitish Kumar, the leader of JD(U), will not become CM should the all-important alliance come back to power. Using the term Chacha ji (uncle) to refer to Kumar, he felt sympathetic about him, and he said, “He had been kidnapped by the BJP. You are all aware of the personality of Chacha ji; he is a good guy at heart; however, he is being ill-treated by the BJP leaders.”

By positioning himself as a leader of integrity and action, Tejashwi promised to give a corruption-free, crime-free and development-driven government in Bihar. He promised the electorate that in case the Mahagathbandhan government is formed, it would give its emphasis on education, health, employment, and the general welfare of the population.

“I never tell half-truths or lies. What I promise, I deliver. Assuming the INDIA bloc triumphs, Tejashwi will be CM and people of Bihar will become chanta mukt (free of worries),” he concluded, promising to make the state safer, fairer, and more prosperous for its citizens.
