On Thursday, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav made a stunning pre-poll commitment saying that under his party’s rule, all households in Bihar will have at least one person employed in a government office in the event his party wins the next assembly elections. In a press conference, Yadav indicated that his government would pass a new law within 20 days of assuming office to ensure that this employment scheme and an intention to see this scheme implemented in the entire state in 20 months.
“When our government comes to power, we will make sure that no household will have anybody without a government job. We will draft a new Act of it in 20 days of the formation of the government, and within 20 months, no single house will be left jobless by the government,” Tejashwi Yadav announced. He insisted that this program would tackle the problem of unemployment and establish the financial security of families all over the state.
It is announced before the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, where people will elect representatives in two phases of 243 assembly seats on November 6 and November 11, with a vote-counting process to take place on November 14. The Election Commission said the final list of electors reached 7.42 crore, down a notch from the 7.89 crore in the first half of the year, after the 65 lakh electors were trimmed off the draft list. As of August 1, 2025, the revised draft list had 7.24 crore electors.
The promise of employment guarantee conveyed by Yadav is likely to be a primary poll contention, attracting the large number of young people in the state, as well as households losing their jobs. According to political analysts, such promises made ahead of the polls might greatly affect the voter feeling in the coming elections, particularly in the constituencies where unemployment is high.
