M. K. Stalin has strongly denounced the Centre with regards to the adoption of women reservation claiming that the move is becoming a political instrument prior to the delimitation exercise proposed to be carried out. In an interview, the DMK president claimed that the BJP-led Union government was not serious in enacting the quota to women timely.
According to Stalin, the Centre should have been keen on empowering women but it could have done so by imposing the reservation right away without necessarily relating it to the delimitation process. He explained that the Union government is not worried about introducing reservation of women, but it is attempting to use it as a weapon to oppose the opposition and go on with delimitation by population.
Expressing his objections to the effects of population-based delimitation, Stalin made it clear once again that such states as Tamil Nadu, which have successfully applied the means of population control, might be marginalized. He emphasised that these states should not be punished because of their achievements in maintaining the levels of population growth.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were one of the first to protest about the proposed exercise. He cited measures like holding all-party conferences and deliberations between Chief Ministers through a Joint Action Committee to pressurize fair delimitation practices.
Stalin also attacked his political opponent Edappadi K Palaniswami on the matter, and restated the DMK position that delimitation must not be updated until the next 25 years based on the 1971 Census.
Once again asserting the stance of his party, Stalin added, Tamil Nadu will struggle and Tamil Nadu will triumph, in reference to the further opposition to any action that may be perceived as injustice to the state.
