ORMAS will organize the annual Sisir Saras Mela in Bhubaneshwar from January 6 to 15. The event will take place at the Biju Patnaik Sports Complex in Barabati Stadium. Featuring the participation of women self-help groups, producer groups, and entrepreneurships from 26 states, the fair is set to host nearly 400 stalls, showcasing a diverse range of handicrafts, handlooms, and spice products.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, a special Food Court with 20 stalls and a thematic stall highlighting ORMAS activities related to livelihood, skill development, and packaging will also be part of the event. The Food Court promises a culinary journey, while the thematic stall provides insights into the multifaceted initiatives undertaken by ORMAS. The fair aims to create a platform for these groups to display and market their products.
In a bid to cater to different interests, this year’s Sisir Saras Mela will feature a unique theme stall focusing on showcasing the activities of ORMAS, ranging from livelihood to skill development. Additionally, efforts will be made to make the fair as environmentally friendly as possible, with initiatives to minimize the use of polythene.
Mr. Guha, the organizer, shared that the fair will include provisions for battery-operated rides for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. Moreover, a dedicated Kids Zone will be set up to ensure a delightful experience for the younger visitors.
Highlighting the success of the previous year, it is worth mentioning that in 2023, the Sisir Saras Mela was organized in Bhubaneshwar alongside mini Pallishree Melas in 30 districts. The cumulative business generated during these events amounted to a substantial Rs. 75 crore.
Overall, the Sisir Saras Mela stands as a testament to ORMAS’s commitment to promoting and supporting the diverse talents of women self-help groups, producers, and entrepreneurs across the country, creating an inclusive space for economic growth and empowerment.
