On Tuesday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar congratulated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on his successful journey in office as he congratulated him by saying good luck after the latter said he was confident that he will serve the full five-year term in office. Siddaramaiah had previously said that he was hopeful that he would complete his tenure as chief minister, but said that it would be the Congress high command that would make the final decision.

Answering the media on the remarks made by Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar attempted to trivialize the idea of conflict in the party. “Let good things happen. I wish him all the best. Good luck,” he said. When questioned on the possibility of the statement made by the chief minister creating confusion, Shivakumar pushed back and said that it was only the media narratives that had created confusion. “You are creating confusion. We don’t have any confusion. You have confusion. Good luck, I hope you prosper, good luck, said he.

Shivakumar also congratulated Siddaramaiah by attaining a significant political milestone. On Tuesday, the chief minister became the longest serving chief minister of Karnataka in the history of the state. During his second term in power, Siddaramaiah completed 2,792 days in office as a chief minister, the same as Urs. On January 7 he will become the longest-serving chief minister in the state in history.

Shivakumar, in recognition of the realization, blessed him and praised Siddaramaiah in his contribution to the state. “I wish him success. May God bless him. I hope that God will bless him with good health and that he will be able to go on serving the people.

In the process, political speculation in the ruling Congress has been increasing in the last few weeks, especially since the government passed the halfway mark of its five-year term on November 20. Alleged understanding on power sharing between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar at the time of formation of Congress government in 2023 has only heightened a discussion on whether there can be a change of leadership.
