A 85-year-old politician, Sharad Pawar, a former Union minister and the NCP (SP) chief was hospitalized in Pune on Monday afternoon because of some health complications involving a throat infection and persistent coughing. Pawar was transferred to his home in Baramati to Pune on a precautionary basis after his condition worried.
His nephew, Shrinivas Pawar, told him that the old leader had been coughing that night since Sunday, and seemed to have gotten congested in the chest. With his history and age, the family chose to take him to Pune where he was to be assessed and given more treatment. He has been taken to the Ruby Hall Clinic, which is one of the best private hospitals in the city.
Shortly after his admission, the wife of Pawar, Pratibha Pawar, daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, and his son in law Sadanand Sule, arrived at the hospital to be with him. Authorities of the hospital affirmed that Pawar was getting medical examination.
According to Dr Parvez Grant, the chief cardiologist and a managing trustee of the Ruby Hall Clinic, a group of doctors would carry out a comprehensive examination to the former Union minister to ascertain the infection severity and the next option of treatment. A group of doctors will examine him when he arrives and more medical measures will be arranged accordingly, Dr Grant said.
The health of Sharad Pawar has been observed keenly in the years as it is due to his previous health conditions. He survived an oral cancer that was diagnosed at the end of the 1990s. As part of his treatment, Pawar has undergone numerous surgeries in India and the United States and has since given numerous public disclosures regarding his recovery.
Party leaders and the supporters have shown concern and of course they wish him a good recovery.
