Ajmer: A ‘train derailment attempt’ occurred in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, recently followed by another incident in Rajasthan’s Ajmer where cement blocks, each of 70 kg two in number, were placed on tracks. These blocks had been crossed by a goods train which, however, had not suffered much and was subsequently able to proceed further on their journey.

Railway authorities later alerted local police, who filed a First Information Report (FIR) under the Railway Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. The quick response by the railway employees and also the beneficiaries, together with the solidity of the train, helped avert what would have been a very catastrophic accident.

This incident is very similar to the Kanpur derailment attempt, where, on the night of September 8, there was a major mishap that could have happened, and the Kalindi Prayagraj-Bhiwani Express was avoided narrowly. An LPG cylinder had been placed on the tracks, and while the train hit the object, no derailment occurred. Officials have described this act as an act of trying to force the train off its tracks or “an attempt to stop the train. ”

The above newspapers reveal that the Kalindi Express was dialoguing at a very high speed when the driver saw the cylinder. He quickly applied the emergency brakes; however, the train came into contact with the cylinder even as it slowed down. Luckily, the effect displaced the cylinder so that it moved off the tracks, thus preventing a severe accident occurrence.

Both of them have brought worries to the authorities and also raised questions concerning the security of railway systems. Characterizations are ongoing in both instances to capture the people behind such intentional acts of vandalism and security measures are tight to avert similar life risky attempts in the near future.
