Jaipur: Heritage Nagar Municipality officials have initiated action against unlicensed meat shops in the city. On Thursday, officials conducted inspections of more than 50 meat shops operating in Bhatta Basti, Shastri Nagar, and Nahari Ka Naka. The majority of these shops were found to be operating without a license. Despite the warning, these unlicensed establishments have been given a grace period of 7 days to obtain licenses. Failure to comply within the stipulated time will result in the seizure of these shops.
A team of municipal officials embarked on enforcement actions in the city at 11 AM. Upon arrival, several shopkeepers hurriedly closed their shops and fled the area. The municipality’s crackdown is motivated by the need to curb the sale of meat from sick animals and unhygienic conditions prevailing in some establishments. To address this, the municipality has imposed a rule requiring meat traders in the city to procure meat only from the Chainpura Slaughterhouse.
Due to the lax enforcement system, some unauthorized meat traders have resorted to slaughtering animals at home or in their shops. This practice not only poses a health risk but also contributes to the spread of uncleanliness. In response, the municipality aims to regulate the meat trade by enforcing strict licensing measures. The 7-day grace period serves as an opportunity for non-compliant shops to rectify their status.
The stringent approach is part of the municipality’s broader efforts to maintain hygiene standards and prevent the sale of substandard meat in the city. By cracking down on unlicensed meat shops, the authorities seek to ensure the well-being of consumers and uphold public health standards. The situation also underscores the need for a more robust regulatory framework to streamline the meat trade and safeguard the community from potential health hazards associated with unlicensed operations.
