Jaipur: The murder of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in his Jaipur home on Tuesday, December 5, sparked a political slugfest two days after the Congress lost to the BJP in the Rajasthan assembly elections. Rajasthan bandh was called by the Karni Sena on Wednesday over the murder, as the BJP claimed that it was the Congress’ revenge for losing the state. Shehzad Poonawala, BJP national spokesperson, shared a video of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi explaining that police had informed Congress CM Ashok Gehlot of Gogamedi’s security threat.
The murder of the Karni Sena chief was caught on camera. On Tuesday, three bike-borne men fired bullets into Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi’s house in Jaipur.
Gogamedi was killed by three gunmen at his residence in Jaipur on Tuesday. One of the gunmen was subsequently killed in retaliatory firing, police said. Gangster Rohit Godara took responsibility for Gogamedi’s killing in a Facebook post. CCTV footage of the incident shows attackers whipping out their weapons and indiscriminately shooting at Gogamedi who is sitting on a couch opposite them. Before fleeing the scene, one of the assailants shoots a motionless Gogamedi lying on the floor from a close range.
The protestors have 8 demands:
1. Immediate arrest of all the persons involved in the murder – Rohit Godara, Lawrence Bishnoi, those who carried out the murder, as well as Sampat Nehra and others who issues death threats to Gogamedi
2. Gogamedi had been receiving death threats since 2012 and had sought police protection on numerous occasions. However, he still was not granted police protection. A committee led by a High Court Judge should be set up to investigate the reasons for not giving security to Gogamedi and concerned officials should be sacked
3. The investigation should be handed over to the NIA
4. The case should be fast tracked and the murderers should be hanged and their homes bulldozed
5. Sacking of the concerned SHO, under who police station limits Gogamedi’s residence came, as well the concerned SP
6. Rs 11 crore to Gogamedi’s family as well as government jobs
7. Lifetime high security be granted to Gogamedi’s family, to be borne by the government. Family members should be immediately issued an arms license
8. Protection to all the witnesses
Dharna and protests with the dead body will continue until all the demands are met, the protestors have said.
