Jaipur: A district private school in Jaipur has created a major controversy when it issued a notice stating that students are not allowed to bring colors and celebrate Holi on the school campus. The directive, which was given by St. Angela Sophia School and led to strong reactions, caught the attention of Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar, who said the institute should be taken to task.

Minister Condemns the School’s Directive

The decision to ban Holi in schools was criticized by Madan Dilawar, who observed that Holi is a very colourful and devotional festival across India. He expressed disappointment with the reports that students who took part in Holi celebrations would be barred from taking their exams. ‘That such an order was issued is very unfortunate.’ He said: “We urge you to take legal action against the school by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).”

School Issues Clarification

The backlash followed, and sister Cynthia, the principal, explained what the note was intended for. According to her, the restriction was to stop the use of synthetic and chemical-based colors, which could harm students. It said the decision was made to protect the children’s wellbeing because artificial colors can trigger skin allergies, throat and respiratory problems.

The explanation has led to continued debate on social media as to whether schools should restrict such celebrations. The matter also sparked debates concerning school security and regulations against cultural sensibilities, as some people back the school’s insistence on safety, while others consider it a needless restriction to festivity traditions.
