BHARATPUR: A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district on Sunday morning, where at least four labourers were killed and three others sustained injuries after a portion of soil collapsed during a pipeline excavation. The devastating accident occurred in the Rundh Ikran area of Kumher police station jurisdiction.
According to local police, the labourers were engaged in digging a trench for a pipeline when the earth suddenly caved in, trapping several workers. Initial reports indicate that the collapse happened around 10:00 AM, catching the workers by surprise.
Emergency services, including police and local rescue teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene. A strenuous rescue operation was launched to pull out those buried under the debris. However, by the time they were extricated, four labourers had succumbed to their injuries. Their identities are being verified, and their families are being informed.
The three injured labourers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors at the facility have stated that their condition is stable, though they are undergoing comprehensive medical evaluation for any internal injuries.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Police officials stated that they are examining whether proper safety protocols were followed at the excavation site and if adequate precautions were taken to prevent such an incident. Questions are being raised about the stability of the soil, the depth of the excavation, and the use of shoring or other protective measures. The incident has cast a somber mood over the local community, highlighting the inherent dangers faced by daily wage labourers in construction and excavation work. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
