Algiwin-M, a widely prescribed anti-allergy and respiratory medicine containing Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride and Montelukast Sodium Tablets IP is counterfeit, prompting the State Drug Control Commissionerate to issue an immediate statewide alert. It is used to prevent allergies and asthma attacks. The problem was specifically found in one batch number, YLT-25029.
The most shocking finding in the report was that the key ingredient, Montelukast, was completely missing in the Algiwin-M tablet. This is the very substance that blocks leukotrienes and provides relief from asthma and allergy symptoms. This means the drug was missing the essential ingredient. Identification parameters also failed to meet standards. In simple words, the patients were consuming a tablet without any therapeutic component, making the medicine ineffective and unsafe. Based on these findings, the drug has been formally declared counterfeit. YL Pharma does the production of this medicine in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.
This drug was manufactured by M/s YL Pharma, located in the Solan district, Himachal Pradesh. In light of the potential danger, officials in all districts of the state have been instructed to increase surveillance and take necessary legal action. Orders have also been given to retest samples of other drugs from this company.
Counterfeit Medicine: A Blooming Concern
Officials also expressed concern that the circulation of such counterfeit drugs is particularly dangerous at a time when climate change and rising pollution have led to a surge in respiratory patients.
If anyone has Algiwin-M with batch number YLT-25029, it is recommended to discontinue its use immediately. If the batch number YLT-25029 and the manufacturing dates 06/2025 or 09/2025 appear on the pack, consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately and consider another product. Also, if it appears in drug stores, it is advised to inform your local drug control authority.
This is not the first time that YL Pharma’s medicines have been flagged. Earlier this month, the company’s popular anti-allergy tablet Wincet-L was found to be 100% counterfeit during testing, once again revealing zero active ingredient content.
Following this, batch number YLT-25023 was immediately withdrawn, and the Rajasthan Medical and Health Department sealed the firm’s production unit. Counterfeit tablets worth ₹20 lakh were confiscated from multiple cities in Rajasthan.
