On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi retaliated at the saffron party, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in a poll rally in Muzaffarpur after the party had attacked him over his lack of presence in the state. Gandhi alleged that the BJP was operating the Bihar government on remote control and that Nitish Kumar was nothing but a mere figurehead yet the real power, he alleged was with the BJP.

“Nitish ji’s face is being used. Gandhi said remote control lies with the BJP, and that the present government lacks an actual interest in the cause of social justice. He claimed that voices of the most backward and most marginalized communities are being systematically muffled and he added, You must not imagine that the voice of the most backward people is heard there. It is controlled by three or four people. BJP controls it.”

The Congress MP reiterated his long time demand of nationwide caste census which he termed as being necessary to achieve actual social representation and equality. I had said before the Prime Minister in Lok Sabha that we needed a caste census. He did not say a single word. BJP is anti-social justice; they do not desire it, Gandhi said underlining that the policies of this party only favor a few.

Drawing a criticism to the state government performance in the last 20 years, Rahul Gandhi opined that the Bihar people have not been given any real progress or opportunities. There is no future of Biharis in Bihar. That is your reality, he said, challenging the claims on development, which were made during the leadership of Nitish Kumar. These statements by Gandhi are amid a highly charged election fight with the opposition now mounting its attack on the BJP-JD(U) alliance on governance, inequality, and unemployment in Bihar.
