In a significant operation, Ghironda Police Station in Punjab arrested two international drug traffickers engaged in heroin smuggling from Pakistan using drones. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ataree Sukhjinder Singh Thapar informed that the police party, led by Sub-Inspector Arjun Kumar, was on the lookout for criminals in the Ghironda police station area, moving from Ghironda village to Achinkot.
An informant provided information about an Alto car with registration number PB02DX9106, a white colour vehicle carrying two individuals. These suspects were involved in drug trafficking from Pakistan through the use of drones. The police attempted to intercept the suspects, prompting the car driver to accelerate in an effort to evade the police. A chase ensued.
Due to the high speed of the car, the traffickers’ vehicle overturned near Guru Dwara Gur Sar Satlani Sahib Hoshiarpur. In the attempt to escape, the car hit a heap of mud and turned over, injuring both individuals inside. They were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The police searched the car and discovered four packets of heroin. The weight of the confiscated heroin was found to be 2 kilograms during the computerized weighing process.
The injured individuals in the car were identified as Sarwan Singh Pun, resident of Ladheval village, and Sukhdev Singh, son of Niranjansingh, resident of Bagdi Police Station Ghironda. The police successfully seized the Alto car and arrested the accused individuals.
This operation in Punjab highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb cross-border drug smuggling, especially involving the use of innovative methods like drones. The swift action of the police in this case led to the apprehension of drug traffickers and the seizure of a significant quantity of heroin. The investigation will likely focus on dismantling the entire network involved in this illicit trade.
