Khanna Police in Punjab arrested a travel agent accused of duping a couple of ₹6 lakhs in the guise of facilitating Portuguese citizenship. The suspect, identified as Sukhvinder Singh from Kalyan village in the Malerkotla district, was apprehended following an investigation into the fraudulent scheme.
According to SHO Satnam Singh, the victims, Sukhkaran Singh and his wife Sukhpreet Kaur, had visited Cyprus, where they encountered Sukhvinder Singh. Sukhvinder Singh allegedly lured them with the promise of obtaining Portuguese citizenship. Upon their return to India, Sukhvinder Singh received ₹6 lakhs and their passports but failed to fulfill his commitment, neither sending the couple to Portugal nor returning the money.
After the arrest of Sukhvinder Singh, further inquiries are being conducted, including scrutinizing his bank accounts. The police aim to gather more information on the extent of the fraudulent activities and if there are other victims.
In a separate case filed at Payal Police Station, a new dowry harassment complaint was registered against in-laws Vijay Kumar, Gurmeet Kaur, and Reshma. According to the details, the three accused had been consistently absent from court hearings since December 31, 2023, leading to a non-appearance report issued by Judge Minakshi Mahajan. Consequently, the court ordered the police to arrest Vijay Kumar.
This recent case adds to the series of legal troubles faced by the accused, as they were already implicated in a dowry harassment case. The police have registered a case against them under Section 174A of the IPC and arrested Vijay Kumar.
These incidents underscore the legal actions being taken against individuals involved in fraudulent activities and criminal offenses, emphasizing the need for vigilance and caution in dealing with matters related to citizenship schemes and dowry harassment.
