Punjab Budget 2025: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday presented the state budget for 2025-26 in the assembly, making it the Aam Aadmi Party government’s third budget after coming to power in the region in 2022.
The total budget of Punjab for the year 2025-26 is Rs 2,36,080 crore. While speaking on the health budget, Cheema blamed the previous governments and also accused them of not doing any work in health infrastructure.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while talking about the health sector of Punjab, said that earlier there was a ‘sick Punjab’, no work was done in the name of health infrastructure during the Congress and BJP-Akali governments, hospitals were in poor condition and there was a shortage of doctors. Now the Mann government is making ‘healthy Punjab’.
In this budget, the Mann government has taken a historic decision to make the health insurance scheme bigger and more effective and to cover all 65 lakh families of Punjab under it. The insurance cover of families has been increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Finance Minister also informed that ‘Health Cards’ will be made in Punjab under the ‘Chief Minister Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana’, a budget of ₹778 crore has been allocated for this initiative.
₹268 crore has been allocated for Aam Aadmi Clinics in the budget. Cheema said that 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics have been established in the last three years, in which more than 70,000 patients visit daily. More than 3 crore people have benefited from these clinics so far.
