Chandigarh: Ex-mayor of Chandigarh, Pradeep Chhabra, succumbed to death after a long illness at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Tuesday. At his death, he is said to have been 62 years old. Chhabra had quite an active political career since 1986; he was with the National Students Union of India, which is the student’s wing of Congress. Over the years, he climbed the ladder to the level of becoming a Blue-eyed boy of Former Union railway minister and four-time member of Parliament Pawan Kumar Bansal. In 2015, Chhabra became the President of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, which once again helped him wield power in the party.
He again became the mayor of the Chandigarh municipal corporation in the year 2008, during which he rendered lots of service to the overall growth and administration of the city. His term involved several accomplishments related to the aims and developmental endeavors in the city of Chandigarh.
In the year 2021, Chhabra changed his political camp and switched to the Aam Aadmi Party, better known as AAP. He switched over to AAP, which boosted the party, particularly in Chandigarh, as he put in a lot of effort to cement the party’s machinery. Accepting his inputs and managerial abilities, in January 2023, Chhabra was assigned the post of president of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board.
In all the years Chhabra served as a representative, he was noted to be committed and devoted to public service. The versatility he demonstrated in his work between different political behavioral niches reflected leadership. This human resource revealed that his management was oriented towards development and essentially meeting the needs of the community or the group.
The death of Pradeep Chhabra was really a huge blow to the political and social groups in Chandigarh. Members of his political party, other party members, his fellow workers in the media house, and other political leaders have condoled him while appreciating his work in the course of his career. The funeral procession will take place on Tuesday evening at 6 PM with the last rites of Pradeep Chhabra at the crematorium at sector 25 of Chandigarh.
