Chandigarh – In a swift and decisive response to the catastrophic flooding gripping Punjab, the Indian Army has launched rescue and relief operations on a war footing. The deluge, which has wreaked havoc across the state, has claimed dozens of lives, displaced scores of residents, and caused extensive damage to thousands of hectares of agricultural land, destroying valuable crops.

Relief and rescue operations are being led by the Indian Army along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab Police and district authorities. Scores of locals, aid organisations as well as celebrities have also joined the relief works.

In a move to take personal stock of the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the affected regions on Tuesday, September 9. His visit is expected to bring a renewed focus on the relief efforts and pave the way for a comprehensive recovery plan for the state. As the rescue operations continue, the focus remains on saving lives and providing immediate support to the displaced population, with a long road to recovery ahead for the state and its people.

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, who was hospitalised on Friday after he complained of exhaustion and low heart rate, has also been monitoring the relief and rescue operations.
