Shambu Border: Regarding the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is fasting unto death in connection with the ongoing farmers protest on the Punjab-Haryana border. During Thursday’s hearing, the Punjab government was asked to present Dallewal’s health report to the court by the bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuiyan.

The Punjab government said that Dallewal’s ECG is normal; all parameters are within limits. Punjab government AG Gurminder Singh told the court that Dallewal is now cooperating.

Court on Punjab Government’s Claim

The state AG, speaking on behalf of the Punjab government, stated that Dallewal is currently assisting with the medical examination. The court ordered Dallewal to be moved to a temporary hospital that was constructed close to the protest site so that his condition could be monitored. An affidavit about this should be filed by the state’s chief secretary and DGP.

An investigation was mandated by the court. On December 19, the Supreme Court had asked the Punjab government to examine Dallewal’s health. The court had questioned why the government was not performing Dallewal’s medical examination while he was fasting. Dallewal, 70, is actually a cancer patient. He is agitating for many demands, including a legal guarantee of MSP on crops.

Doctors said, “The level of ketones is very high. An electrolyte imbalance can cause cardiac arrest at any time. He’s in a bad state.” Dallewal’s health has gotten really terrible, according to farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar.
