Indian Air Defence system has successfully intercepted and shot down a Pakistani projectile in Punjab’s Amritsar last night at around 1 AM. The missile was neutralised by our anti-missile system mid-air and brought down.

Amidst the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the targeted strikes on terror camps, a wave of panic swept through the border district of Amritsar in Punjab. Around 1 am on Thursday, residents were jolted awake by the sound of explosions and unsettling flashes of light illuminating the night sky. This was immediately followed by an unexpected power shutdown, plunging the area into darkness and amplifying the sense of unease.

“There was panic all around. After the explosion, a part of the missile fell in a field at Jethuwal, while debris was found scattered over houses also. Villagers informed the police who arrived and took the debris away,” said Parkash Singh, a resident of the village.

As dawn broke, the source of the night’s disturbance became clearer and more alarming. Debris, strongly resembling fragments of missiles, was discovered scattered across the fields of Jethuwal, Makhan Windi, and Pandher, all located on the outskirts of the city. The recovery of this wreckage served as a stark reminder of the escalating security situation in the region and brought the geopolitical tensions directly to the doorsteps of the local population.

The events of the night have understandably triggered significant anxiety among the residents of Amritsar. Living in a border district, they are acutely aware of the potential for conflict and the ramifications it can have on their daily lives. The unexplained explosions, the mysterious lights, and the subsequent discovery of missile-like debris have fueled fears of further escalation and uncertainty about the future. Local authorities are likely investigating the incidents to ascertain the exact nature of the explosions and the origin of the recovered debris, aiming to provide clarity and reassurance to a concerned populace during this sensitive time.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote heartfelt tribute to the martyred soldier. “Due to continuous firing by Pakistan on the LOC, a brave soldier from Palwal district of Haryana, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, has been martyred while protecting the country.
