Hoshiyarpur: In a shocking incident, Manroop Singh Dhami, the 25-year-old son of Congress councilor Jagroop Singh Dhami, was suddenly attacked by over 10 unidentified youths while he was getting an X-ray at a civil hospital in Punjab. The attack took place around 3 pm near Ward No. 22 of the hospital.
During the assault, near the hospital’s parking area, Manroop Singh managed to push away some of the attackers and successfully entered the hospital. Taking refuge in the hospital premises, he saved himself. However, a group of attackers, armed with lathis measuring 5-6 feet, pursued him into the hospital, even reaching the offices of senior medical officers (SMOs).
Unable to locate Manroop Singh inside the hospital, the attackers resorted to verbal abuse before leaving the premises. The hospital staff immediately informed the Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Dr. Swati, who, in turn, reported the incident to the SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Sarataj Singh Chahal.
DSP City Palwinder Singh and the Model Town police station personnel arrived at the scene, initiating Manroop Singh’s medical treatment. Manroop Singh recounted that on October 1, while returning from Tagore Nagar for some work, he was stopped by a person from the neighborhood, who warned him not to return to that area. The individual had threatened him not to enter the locality again.
On the day of the incident, when Congress Councillor’s son, Manroop Singh reached the hospital in his car for an X-ray with a female companion, the same person, recently discharged from the hospital, gestured at him with threats. Following the X-ray, when Manroop Singh sat in his car to return home, around 10-12 youths, armed with sharp weapons, suddenly appeared and began pulling him out of the car.
After the attack, all the assailants fled the scene. Dr. Swati informed the police about the incident and registered a complaint. The assault inside the hospital has created an atmosphere of fear among the hospital staff and patients. They have urged the police to take action against the attackers to ensure their safety and well-being.
