Amritsar: On the anticipated ‘Delhi Chalo’ march set for Tuesday, March 13, Punjab’s farmers are gearing up to advocate for their diverse demands. However, amidst this, the Haryana government has taken stringent measures by sealing multiple borders and fortifying roads with spikes and barbed wire. In response, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, has strongly criticized the preparations of the central government to handle the farmers’ proposed march to Delhi.
Mann emphasized the necessity for the central government to acknowledge and address the legitimate grievances of the farmers. Expressing his discontent over the deployment of spikes and barbed wire to obstruct the farmers’ path to Delhi, Mann took to Twitter to caution against transforming the landscape into a militarized border akin to that between India and Pakistan. He urged the central government to engage in dialogue with the farmers, stressing the importance of recognizing and accommodating their rightful demands. Furthermore, he appealed for a compassionate approach, urging against instigating animosity towards the farmers.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, Bhagwant Mann drew parallels between the measures implemented by the Haryana government along the Punjab border and those along the international border with Pakistan. He criticized the Haryana government, led by Manohar Lal Khattar, for adopting such stringent tactics to impede the farmers’ progress towards the national capital.
In response, Khattar defended his government’s actions, asserting that the primary objective is to uphold law and order. He justified the sealing of state borders and the prevention of Punjab farmers’ entry into the national capital as necessary measures to maintain stability and security.
The escalating tensions between the state governments and the farmers underscore the urgent need for constructive dialogue and resolution. As the standoff intensifies, finding a middle ground becomes increasingly imperative to prevent further polarization and foster a peaceful resolution to the ongoing impasse.
