Amritsar: Authorities said on Saturday that the Border Security Force (BSF) managed to recover over 6kg of heroin in Amritsar district in Punjab. It occurred during two different raids, during and after which UAVs were employed, and there was information concerning narcotics.
BSF security personnel were alert and prompt in responding, noticed the drones flying, and started a search operation. Consequently, they were able to retrieve a sum of 6. 130 kg of heroin. The first contaminated consignment, which weighed to be 560 grams, was discovered in Mahawa village. The second and substantially larger consignment of 5.570 kg was discovered in Kakkar village at around 6:10 PM on Friday. Two of the selected villages fall under the Amritsar district of Punjab state in India. The names of the two villages are Gurlach and Sohal.
In a post on social media platform X, the BSF posted, “Both consignments were dropped by Pakistani drones”. This scenario shows how the border situation remains delicate regarding drone-assisted drug trafficking.
This seizure came close on the heels of another serious event on June 24, when the BSF had reported that its personnel had shot down a Chinese-made drone laden with a packet of 420 grams of heroin in the border area of Amritsar district. Thus, that morning, the personnel of the BSF detected blinking on one of the drones in the border area. Without wasting more time, they proceeded with their normal procedure of eliminating the drone while observing it head for what seemed to be a possible drop-off point. An extensive search operation ensued, and by 4:18 AM, seizing a laden drone near Chaklabaksh village, the BSF personnel could achieve a successful recovery.
The heroin bore the signal ‘GOD’ and it was covered in yellow adhesive tape and tied to the drone with a metal ring. The type of drone was established to be a DJI Mavic-3 classic which is made in China. This scenario brings a message on the modality of smugglers and the new techniques they employ in trying to ferry drugs through the border.
