Amritsar to Birmingham Air India Flight Emergency Landing: An Air India flight (AI117) from Amritsar to Birmingham made an emergency landing. RAT is suspected to be the cause of the emergency landing. The flight has been grounded and alternative arrangements are being made for the affected passengers.

On Saturday, Air India flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham deployed its ram air turbine (RAT) after a technical alert. The incident occurred during the final approach, just before landing.

Air India issued a statement saying, “On October 4, 2025, the operating crew of flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham detected the aircraft’s ram air turbine (RAT) deploying just before landing. Upon inspection, all electrical and hydraulic parameters were found to be normal, and the aircraft landed safely. The company further stated that as per standard operating procedures (SOP), the aircraft has been grounded for a detailed inspection.

The company said that due to the Amritsar to Birmingham flight, the return flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi has been cancelled. Air India said that alternative arrangements are being made for the affected passengers. An Air India spokesperson said, “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. All systems have been found to be normal, however, a detailed inspection is underway.”

The RAT (Ram Air Turbine) is automatically activated in an aircraft when an emergency occurs in the main electrical or hydraulic systems. It uses the power of the air to provide emergency electrical or hydraulic power outside the engine. However, according to Air India, no system malfunction was found in this case.
