Chandigarh : Many districts in Punjab are facing floods due to heavy rains and water released from dams. So far 29 people have lost their lives in this disaster, while more than 2.5 lakh people have been affected.
Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has announced to adopt 10 flood-affected villages of Amritsar and Gurdaspur under his Sanjh Foundation. Diljit has planned this in three phases. In the first phase, people will be given tarpaulins, medicines and solar lights. In the second phase, the adopted villages will be surveyed and help will be provided as per the need. In the third phase, flood-affected houses will be repaired and necessary facilities will be provided to the farmers.
Punjabi actor and singer Amy Virk has expressed grief over the devastation caused by the floods and has announced to adopt 200 houses. He wrote in an emotional post on Instagram, “Our hearts are saddened to see the devastation caused by the floods in Punjab. It is extremely painful to see our people homeless. In our small effort, we are adopting 200 houses so that those who have lost everything can get support. It is not just about giving shelter, but about giving hope, respect and the strength to start a new beginning.”
Singer Mika Singh has also appealed to the people of Punjab to unite and help in this difficult time. He said that he himself is joining this relief operation and wants more and more people to be a part of this campaign.
Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa has also set up relief camps to help the flood-affected people. He wrote on Instagram, “Prayers for Punjab and all the states affected by the floods. Let us help in every possible way. I am setting up relief camps near my area Dera Baba Nanak and my village Dharowali.” His team is providing ration and drinking water to the needy.
Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who is known for his humanitarian help during the Covid-19 pandemic, has once again extended support to Punjab. He shared a video on social media and said, “I stand with Punjab. No one affected by this devastating flood is alone. Together we will help each and every person to get back on their feet. If you need any kind of help, feel free to send a message.” He has also started a helpline number (+91 7888675107) through the Sood Charity Foundation.
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt also described the Punjab floods as “heartbreaking” and promised all possible help. He wrote on his X handle, “The devastation caused by the floods in Punjab is truly heartbreaking. Sending strength and prayers to all those affected. I will support in every way I can.
