Punjab’s ruling AAP began its ‘Shukrana Yatra’ on Tuesday in Patiala with party convenor and MP Bhagwant Mann to thank voters for their support in the recent byelections. The party emerged victorious in three assembly constituencies: the Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, and Chabbewal seats; the Congress won the Barnala seat. The results were declared on November 23, maintaining AAP’s dominance in the state.
The campaign launched with the party leaders – Punjab AAP president and cabinet minister Aman Arora and working president Amansher Singh Shery Kalsi paying obeisance at the Kali Mata Temple at Patiala. Ministers including Harpal Singh Cheema and Harjot Singh Bains, as well as MLPs Ajitpal Singh Kohli and Gurlal Singh Ghanaur, also graced the occasion.
Citizen-friendly: Sirhind, Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna, Doraha, Ludhiana, Ladhowal Toll Plaza, Phillaur, Jalandhar, and Kartarpur Sahib. They are planned to end at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Ram Tirath Temple in Amritsar, which symbolizes its religious focus and the party’s intent to connect with communities in Punjab.
AAP Punjab leaders have said that the yatra has been undertaken to thank the people for their support to the party. They described the bye-election victories as in line with the government’s promise to fulfill its goals and also to attend to people’s welfare needs appropriately.
It is also viewed as a necessity to reboot AAP’s relations with the community and cement them in Punjab for the upcoming electoral fights. The party is viewing its victory in the bypolls as a sign of the party consolidating its position and gaining more acceptability in the state.
